A Ledger works with Arc the way it works with every EVM chain — your keys stay on the device, and a software interface does the talking. What did Ledger actually announce for Arc?
Circle named Ledger among Arc's day-one wallet partners. Ledger's own public code repository shows Arc mainnet and testnet support merged into Ledger Live in May 2026 — native Arc accounts, USDC-as-gas fee handling, and Ledger's own node — which strongly indicates native support at or soon after launch. The confirmation that matters to you is simpler than any announcement: open Ledger Live, add an account, and search for "Arc." If it's there, use Path 1. If it isn't yet, Path 2 works today and always will.
Path 1 — natively in Ledger Live (if Arc is listed)
- Update Ledger Live and your device firmware.
- Accounts → Add account → search "Arc" → follow the prompts. Ledger Live installs or uses the Ethereum app on the device for EVM chains.
- Your Arc address appears; fund it by bridging USDC or receiving from an exchange (Kraken, Coinbase).
- Sending USDC on Arc is a native-value transfer — the amount, recipient and fee display on the device screen for you to verify physically before approving.
Balance labeling note: Arc's native token is USDC with 18 protocol decimals; some interfaces still label native EVM balances "ETH." In Ledger Live's native integration the ticker should read USDC; elsewhere, the number is right and the label is cosmetic (why).
Path 2 — Ledger as signer behind MetaMask or Rabby
This is the standard method for any EVM chain and the one most Arc apps are tested against.
- Add Arc to MetaMask or Rabby with official parameters — from the mainnet-live page or docs.arc.io only (MetaMask walkthrough). Ledger's own support guidance points users to exactly this approach for networks not yet native in Ledger Live.
- In the wallet, connect a hardware wallet → Ledger → select the account. Your Ledger address is now a MetaMask/Rabby account that can't sign anything without the device.
- Open the Ethereum app on the Ledger for every Arc interaction — EVM chains share it.
- Transact normally in apps (Uniswap, Aerodrome, Team Finance); each signature requires physical confirmation on the device.
What about "blind signing"?
Ledger devices refuse by default to sign contract interactions they can't display in readable form. A plain USDC send on Arc is a native transfer and displays fully. Contract interactions — swaps, bridges, locks — display clearly only where the app has Clear Signing metadata registered; otherwise the device shows a hash and requires you to enable blind signing (Ethereum app → Settings → Blind signing) to proceed. Enabling it is sometimes necessary and always a moment to slow down: the single largest hack in crypto history, Bybit's $1.5 billion loss in February 2025, was signed on hardware devices by people approving a transaction the device couldn't render. Practical rule: enable blind signing only for the transaction you're doing, with the app URL verified, then disable it. Clear Signing coverage for Arc apps will grow with the ecosystem; until then, assume you're blind-signing DeFi interactions and act accordingly (the drainer patterns that exploit this).
Who needs a hardware wallet on Arc?
Anyone holding more than they'd shrug off losing — and every project founder without exception. Deployer wallets, treasury wallets, and the wallet that owns your liquidity lock or vesting contracts should be hardware-backed; a compromised hot wallet with lock ownership is a slow-motion rug you didn't intend (lock ownership transfers let you move that ownership to a hardware-backed or multisig address).
