DogeOS is an EVM-compatible application layer being built on top of Dogecoin by the team behind the MyDoge wallet. It is designed to let developers deploy Ethereum-style smart contracts — DeFi, games, launchpads — in an environment where DOGE is the gas token, while Dogecoin itself stays a simple payments chain. As of today it exists as a public testnet called Chikyū. There is no mainnet, there is no DogeOS token, and no date has been announced for either.
That last sentence is the one most pages about DogeOS get wrong, so it is worth stating plainly before anything else. If you found this page while checking a "DogeOS token" price or a contract address, skip to the four things DogeOS is not.
How DogeOS works
Dogecoin's scripting language is deliberately limited. It can move DOGE from one address to another, and very little else. There is no virtual machine, no smart contracts, and therefore no lending markets, no decentralized exchanges and no on-chain games native to the chain. DogeOS CEO Jordan Jefferson put the gap bluntly in a May 2026 interview: "There is no on-chain economy for Dogecoin. There is no decentralized trading of Dogecoin."
DogeOS's answer is a rollup. The official documentation describes it as an "Application Layer rollup network on Dogecoin" built around a zkEVM — a zero-knowledge virtual machine that behaves like Ethereum's. The docs put the developer pitch directly: "If you've ever used or developed an application on Ethereum, you'll be right at home on DogeOS."
Three architectural points matter, and the third is where the honest caveat lives.
DOGE is the gas token. The Chikyū testnet uses DOGE as its native currency. Users do not need to acquire a separate gas asset, which is the single most common reason retail users abandon a new chain.
Assets move across a bridge, not natively. DOGE on Dogecoin L1 is locked and a corresponding balance appears on the L2. The documented testnet bridge is bidirectional and requires OP_RETURN data attached to the Dogecoin-side deposit. Relay time is stated as "up to 4 hours" in each direction, and the docs carry an explicit caveat: "This is a very early implementation of the bridge specifcally for testnet. There may be delays or other unknown issues." Our DogeOS bridge guide walks through both directions step by step.
Settlement is the unresolved part. The docs state that "the Dogecoin blockchain verifies that every transaction on DogeOS is valid" through cryptographic proofs, with transaction data published to Ethereum for data availability. Read that carefully: verification on Dogecoin, data availability on Ethereum. The data-availability half is achievable today. The verification half is not, because Dogecoin cannot currently verify a zero-knowledge proof. Nothing in Dogecoin's consensus rules can evaluate one.
That is the purpose of OP_CHECKZKP, the opcode DogeOS proposed to Dogecoin Core in July 2025. It would give Dogecoin native ZK-proof verification, which is what would let a rollup settle trustlessly back to the L1.
The proposal is not merged. It sits as an open GitHub discussion (dogecoin/dogecoin#3869), opened July 22, 2025, with 16 comments and 33 replies, last active February 14, 2026. Core maintainer Patrick Lodder's position on the record is that the linked implementation "needs a lot of work" and that he is "not sold on the protocol proposal either yet." He has also raised auditability objections to introducing Rust into consensus-critical code, and has floated standing up "an uncheckpointed testnet, with more robust parametrization" as a venue for evaluating soft-fork ideas.
Read that as engaged skepticism rather than rejection — a maintainer proposing a test environment is describing a path, not closing one. But it does mean the trust model DogeOS ultimately wants depends on a change to Dogecoin that DogeOS does not control and that has no timeline. Until then, any live DogeOS bridge operates on a weaker trust assumption than the documentation's end-state describes. We track the proposal's status in the Dogecoin ZK upgrade explainer.
Who builds DogeOS, and who funded it
DogeOS comes from the team behind MyDoge, a Dogecoin wallet the company says had over half a million users at the time of its funding announcement. The CEO is Jordan Jefferson.
In May 2025, DogeOS raised $6.9 million in a seed round led by Polychain Capital, reported by CoinDesk on May 6, 2025. Jefferson framed the thesis at the time: "Dogecoin has always been about community and culture – DogeOS is bridging the gap between Dogecoin's massive consumer community and real on-chain innovation." He has since described the opening more directly: "We realized that Dogecoin was like the biggest community that no one was building anything for."
The ZK proposal drew supportive comment from the Dogecoin Foundation's Tim Stebbing, who said that "Dogecoin gaining the ability to integrate with ZK L2s is the kind of interoperability we need to build ecosystem utility." That is a notable endorsement of the direction, though it is not the same thing as Core maintainers agreeing to merge the opcode.
One thing worth knowing if you are assessing momentum: the official DogeOS blog has not published since November 20, 2025, and the monthly "State of Doge" update series stopped at October 2025. Announcements appear to have shifted to the project's X account. We flag it because it is the kind of signal that is easy to miss and hard to interpret charitably.
What is live today — and what is not
Live: the Chikyū testnet.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Network name | DogeOS Chikyū Testnet |
| Chain ID | 6281971 (hex 0x5fdaf3) |
| RPC URL | https://rpc.testnet.dogeos.com/ |
| Currency symbol | DOGE |
| Block explorer | https://dogeos-testnet.l2scan.co (per official docs) |
| Alternate explorer | https://blockscout.testnet.dogeos.com (per Chainlist) |
| Faucet | https://faucet.testnet.dogeos.com — one claim per 24 hours |
| Bridge portal | https://portal.testnet.dogeos.com/bridge |
A note on that table: two explorers exist and the official docs and the Chainlist entry point at different ones. Both appear functional. Chainlist's entry for 6281971 also renders its RPC table without any endpoints, so the RPC URL above comes from the DogeOS documentation. If you are configuring a wallet, use the docs. Full walkthrough in our Chikyū testnet guide.
Testnet activity is enormous and should be read with care. The Blockscout explorer showed roughly 28.6 million addresses and 194 million transactions as of September 19, 2026. Those are not 28.6 million users. The overwhelming majority is points-farming activity driven by the Grand Heist loyalty program, which is exactly what you would expect on a testnet where participation might one day be rewarded.
Not live: mainnet. No public mainnet date exists from any primary source. Status and signals in our DogeOS mainnet tracker. You may encounter a press-wire item claiming DogeOS "targets June launch." That is paid distribution, not reporting, and no DogeOS announcement, blog post or documentation page supports it. Treat any specific mainnet date you see as unsourced until DogeOS publishes one.
Not live: a token. DogeOS has never announced a token or a TGE. The Grand Heist is a points program; its reward date is listed as TBA. Details, and the dilution math implied by 28.6 million testnet addresses, in our DogeOS airdrop and token facts page.
Four things DogeOS is not
The name collides with several unrelated things, and at least two of them can cost you money.
1. It is not the "DogeOS" ERC-20 tokens on Ethereum. At least two contracts trade under the DogeOS name, including 0xb4a975ffef5c1ad660a3f2a50dbe68c84f957466 (10 billion supply, roughly 29 holders, verified source containing tax functions, no website or socials, Etherscan reputation "Unknown") and 0x76806b42ff1260A90f529BED2397cA9d73c793c2. Neither is affiliated with the DogeOS chain. There is no official DogeOS contract address, because there is no official DogeOS token.
2. It is not a DOGEOS memecoin on another chain. Tokens using the ticker have appeared elsewhere. Same rule applies: DogeOS has issued nothing.
3. It is not the open-source "DogeOS" project on GitHub. An unrelated repository (themartiancompany/dogeos) describes a software collection derived from SmartOS and Project FiFo. This one causes genuine confusion because at least one widely-ranked exchange-blog article describes that project's technology — ZFS, DTrace, KVM virtualisation — while citing the chain's real $6.9M Polychain raise, producing an article that is accurate about the funding and wrong about everything else. If a description of DogeOS mentions operating-system virtualisation, you are reading about the wrong project.
4. It is not Dogechain. Dogechain is an older, separate Dogecoin-adjacent EVM network with its own DC token and a different relationship to Dogecoin. Comparison in DogeOS vs Dogechain.
How to tell you are on the real thing
- Official domains are
dogeos.com,docs.dogeos.com,blog.dogeos.com,heist.dogeos.com,portal.testnet.dogeos.com,faucet.testnet.dogeos.comandsdk.dogeos.com. Type them; do not follow links from replies. - The only live network is the testnet, chain ID 6281971. Any site asking you to connect to a "DogeOS mainnet" is not what it claims to be.
- Testnet DOGE has no value and cannot be sold. Anyone offering to buy it is running a scam.
- Never bridge real DOGE anywhere claiming to be DogeOS mainnet. There is no mainnet bridge.
- There is no token, so there is no contract address, no presale and no whitelist to pay for.
The ecosystem taking shape
DogeOS has named a set of applications building on the testnet, which is the clearest available signal of what a mainnet would look like: BarkSwap (DEX), Derps (perpetuals), MOAR (lending), MetaFide (prediction markets), PlaysOut and DogeFoodLab (games), Anoncoin (an AI-powered memecoin launchpad), plus USDoge, Elitra and Onara. Lombard's LBTC integration was announced in September 2025, bringing Bitcoin liquidity into the environment.
Treat these as testnet deployments rather than businesses with users. None of them can have real volume, because there is no real value on the chain yet. The full list of 27 listed apps, with what each has actually shipped, is in our DogeOS ecosystem breakdown.
What this means if you launch tokens — or just hold DOGE
If you hold DOGE: nothing changes today. DogeOS does not modify Dogecoin, does not require an upgrade to hold DOGE, and does not affect DOGE's supply. If it ships, the practical change is that DOGE gains somewhere to be used rather than only held — lending, trading, paying for things on-chain. Jefferson's framing is that the demand already exists and the infrastructure does not. The counter-case is equally real: Dogecoin has seen app-layer attempts before, and the one that matters most here depends on a Core change that has not been accepted.
If you launch tokens: DogeOS being EVM-compatible is the operative fact. Standard Ethereum tooling — Solidity, Hardhat, Foundry — works, which means the infrastructure token launchers rely on is portable rather than needing to be rebuilt. You can rehearse the whole deployment on testnet today — see the deploy guide, and the fee model, which has a quirk worth knowing about before you design contracts. TrustSwap's Team Finance is EVM-compatible, so token locks, liquidity locks and vesting schedules are deployable to DogeOS whenever a mainnet exists. We are not deploying to a testnet and we will not announce support before there is a chain to support. What we can say now: a chain whose first named launchpad is a memecoin launchpad is a chain where liquidity locking will matter on day one.
What changes at mainnet
We will update this page when any of the following becomes true, and each one is a trigger for new pages in this hub:
- A mainnet date is announced by a primary source. Chain params change, the testnet table above gets a mainnet column, and the "no mainnet" warnings become historical.
- OP_CHECKZKP moves. Merged, formally rejected, or superseded by a different settlement design — each materially changes the trust model described above.
- A token is announced. The entire token section is rewritten, and the airdrop page splits.
- Team Finance deploys. Lock and vesting guidance for DogeOS launches gets its own page.
Until then, every statement on this page reflects what primary sources actually say as of the verification date at the top.
FAQ
What is DogeOS in simple terms?
It is a separate blockchain that runs on top of Dogecoin and can do things Dogecoin cannot — run smart contracts, host apps, support DeFi — while using DOGE as its currency. Think of Dogecoin as the money and DogeOS as the place to spend it.
Is DogeOS the same as Dogecoin?
No. Dogecoin is the base blockchain and DOGE is its coin. DogeOS is a separate application layer built by a different team, using DOGE as its gas token. Holding DOGE does not require you to do anything about DogeOS.
Does DogeOS have a token?
No. DogeOS has never announced a token or a token generation event. Any contract trading under the DogeOS name is unaffiliated.
Is DogeOS live?
The Chikyū testnet is live at chain ID 6281971, with a working faucet and bridge. Mainnet is not live and has no announced date.
Who is behind DogeOS?
The team behind the MyDoge Dogecoin wallet, led by CEO Jordan Jefferson. It raised $6.9 million in a seed round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025.
Is DogeOS the same as Dogechain?
No. Dogechain is an older, separate network with its own DC token. They are different projects with different teams and different relationships to Dogecoin.
Is DogeOS legit?
The project is real: named team, disclosed funding, public documentation, a working testnet and a proposal submitted to Dogecoin Core. That is different from saying it will succeed — it is seed-stage, has no mainnet date, and its intended settlement design depends on a Dogecoin Core change that has not been accepted. Separately, several scam tokens use the DogeOS name; the project itself has issued nothing.
When is the DogeOS mainnet launch?
No date has been announced. Claims of a specific launch month circulating in press-wire content are not supported by any DogeOS source.
