How to Lock Team Tokens on Solana

Last updated: August 2026By the TrustSwap Team

Solana's burn culture solved half the rug problem: pools get burned, and buyers check. The unsolved half is the team's own allocation — and on a chain where LP burning is table stakes, an unlocked team bag is now the first thing sophisticated buyers screen for.

What is a team token lock on Solana?

A team token lock on Solana is a fixed-date vault holding your project's team allocation — the tokens can't be sold, moved, or borrowed against until the unlock date, and anyone can verify the amount and date on-chain. It answers the question burned LP can't: "the pool is safe, but what stops the team from dumping?" Team Finance team locks on Solana are audited, non-custodial, flat-fee ($150 in SOL), and each lock gets a public page plus Solscan visibility. They currently support standard SPL tokens; Token-2022 token locks are not yet supported (as of August 2026).

Why do Solana projects need team locks if the LP is burned?

Because burning LP closes exactly one door — the pool — and team supply walks out a different one. A team holding 20% of supply unlocked can sell into any pool, including pools they didn't create, and no amount of LP burning prevents it. This is the specific gap in Solana's burn-first culture: launchpad-graduated tokens have protocol-owned liquidity (nothing to rug there), so the only insider risk left is the creator and team allocation — which is why what to lock after pump.fun graduation is its own guide. A public team lock converts "trust us" into a date on-chain.

How do you lock team tokens on Solana?

The flow takes minutes on the Solana mini-site:

  1. Connect the wallet that holds the tokens. This wallet is permanent for the lock — it cannot be changed after the lock contract deploys. Decide custody first.
  2. Enter the token address. Standard SPL tokens are supported; the app confirms the token details.
  3. Add lock details. Amount and unlock date. Lock the whole team allocation — a partial lock invites the obvious question about the remainder — and stagger tranches if you want periodic access (one fee per lock).
  4. Pay $150 in SOL and create the contract. Flat at any size (pricing); network fees are fractions of a cent.
  5. Publish the lock page and Solscan link. Next to your LP proof, in docs and pins. Here's what holders will check.

Should you use one lock or staggered tranches?

Staggered fixed-date locks — several tranches with spaced unlock dates — beat one cliff, because a single date releasing the whole allocation is a sell-pressure event traders mark on calendars. Splitting the allocation into, say, four locks unlocking over two years smooths the curve and reads as planning. Two honesty notes: each tranche is its own lock with its own fee, and these are fixed-date locks — they release in full at their date. If what you actually need is continuous gradual release with per-recipient schedules, that's a different tool that Team Finance doesn't currently offer on Solana — we'd rather say so than sell you the wrong thing.

FAQ

How much does a team lock cost on Solana? $150 per lock, paid in SOL, flat regardless of amount. Staggered setups pay per lock.

Can the lock be ended early? No — fixed-date locks cannot be withdrawn, shortened, or overridden before the unlock date, by anyone.

Does it work for Token-2022 tokens? Not yet — token locks currently support standard SPL tokens, with Token-2022 support planned (as of August 2026). If your token uses Token-2022, contact the team before planning around a lock.

Can holders verify the lock themselves? Yes — the locked amount, owner, and unlock date are public on the lock page and verifiable on Solscan, no trust required.

What should we do when an unlock date approaches? Communicate before the market notices: what unlocks, what the plan is, and what gets re-locked. Silent unlocks are self-inflicted sell-offs.
