Locking liquidity is the single strongest trust signal a Base token can send. This guide covers what a liquidity lock does, the exact steps to create one with Team Finance, what it costs, and — just as important — what can't be locked on Base today.
What does locking liquidity on Base mean?
Locking liquidity on Base means depositing your DEX liquidity-pool (LP) tokens into an audited smart-contract vault that nobody — including you — can withdraw from until a preset unlock date. Your token keeps trading normally on the DEX the whole time; what the lock removes is the team's ability to pull the pool and leave holders unable to sell, the mechanism behind a rug pull. Team Finance locks are non-custodial: the vault contract holds the LP tokens, TrustSwap never takes custody, and the lock's owner, amount, and unlock date are publicly readable on BaseScan.
Why should you lock liquidity on Base?
You should lock liquidity on Base because buyers, DEX screeners, and listing platforms now treat an unlocked pool as a red flag by default. Base is the largest Ethereum L2 by total value secured (roughly $11.7B as of August 2026, per L2BEAT), and its low fees mean new tokens launch there constantly — which also means Base traders have been trained by rug pulls to check the lock before they buy. Screener tools surface liquidity-lock status automatically. A visible lock with a meaningful duration doesn't guarantee a good project, but the absence of one reliably kills serious interest.
How do you lock LP tokens on Base with Team Finance?
Locking LP tokens on Base takes one transaction and a few minutes once you hold the LP tokens in your wallet. The full flow:
- Add liquidity on a Base DEX. Pair your token with ETH (or a stable like USDC) on Uniswap on Base. You'll receive LP tokens (a v2-style pair) or an LP NFT (a v3 position) representing your share of the pool.
- Open Team Finance and select Base. Go to team.finance, choose Lockups, and pick Base as the blockchain.
- Choose "Liquidity Tokens" and connect your wallet. MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet are supported — Coinbase Wallet being the natural fit on Base.
- Enter your LP token address. Team Finance reads the pair details so you can confirm you're locking the right pool.
- Set the amount and unlock date. Lock as close to 100% of your LP as you can justify, and pick a date you're prepared to stand behind publicly — extensions are possible later; early withdrawal is not.
- Pay the fee and execute. Approve the LP tokens, pay the flat service fee, and confirm the lock transaction. Your lock appears in your dashboard and on-chain immediately.
- Publish the proof. Share the lock's BaseScan transaction and your Team Finance lock page in your docs and community channels. (Here's how holders verify it.)
How much does it cost to lock liquidity on Base?
A liquidity lock on Base costs a flat $150, paid in ETH at the time of locking. The fee is fixed in USD regardless of how much liquidity you lock, and there are no percentage fees and no token taxes — pricing is published in the Team Finance pricing table. If you created your token with MintPlus, the standard lock fee is waived for MintPlus auto-locks. Gas on Base is typically well under a cent per transaction (as of August 2026), so the network cost is negligible.
Which Base DEXes and LP types can you lock?
Team Finance locks standard v2-style LP tokens and Uniswap v3 LP positions on Base. In practice that means Uniswap pairs and pools are fully covered — including v3 NFT positions, which have their own locking flow. Two honest limits you should know before you choose where to seed liquidity:
Can you lock Aerodrome LP tokens? No — Team Finance does not currently support locking Aerodrome LP positions on Base. If lockable liquidity matters to your launch (it should), seed your pool on Uniswap instead, or read the full Aerodrome answer for your options.
Can you lock a Uniswap v4 position on Base? No — Team Finance does not currently support Uniswap v4 position locks on Base. Uniswap v3 and v2-style pools remain the lockable route, and for most token launches a v3 or v2 pool is still the standard choice. We'd rather tell you this plainly than let you find out after you've seeded a pool you can't lock — see how we compare with other Base lockers for the full landscape.
How long should you lock liquidity for?
Lock for at least a year if you want the lock to function as a trust signal rather than a formality. Short locks — weeks or a couple of months — are widely read as a delayed exit, not a commitment. Many serious Base projects lock for one to two years and extend as milestones are hit; Team Finance locks can be extended and split, but never shortened or withdrawn early. Match the duration to your roadmap and say so publicly: a dated, explained lock beats a long, silent one.
How do you prove your liquidity is locked?
Your lock is provable by anyone, without trusting you, directly on BaseScan: the LP tokens sit in the lock contract, visible in the pair's holder list, with the unlock date readable on your Team Finance lock page. Walk your community through it once — our BaseScan verification guide is written for exactly that purpose. Projects that make verification easy convert skeptics; projects that say "trust us" don't.
FAQ
Is Team Finance audited? Team Finance's locking contracts are audited and the platform has operated since 2020, securing billions of dollars in value across tens of thousands of projects (figures as of August 2026 — see security and audits). It is one of the longest-running lockers in the industry.
Can I withdraw a lock early? No. Locks cannot be withdrawn, shortened, or overridden by anyone before the unlock date — that immutability is the entire point.
Can I add to or extend an existing lock? Yes. You can extend a lock's unlock date, split locks between owners, and transfer lock ownership — every change is recorded on-chain.
What happens when the lock expires? After the unlock date, the lock owner claims the LP tokens back through the Team Finance Claims dashboard. Nothing moves automatically.
